About
Mae Batherson is a dynamic and versatile defenseman who has emerged as one of the rising stars in professional women's hockey. A native of New Minas, Nova Scotia and younger sister of Ottawa Senators forward Drake Batherson, Mae grew up immersed in the game, honing her skills and passion on the ice from a young age. Her dedication and natural talent propelled her to a standout collegiate career at Syracuse University, where she was a key player for the Orange in NCAA Division I hockey.
After four years with Syracuse, Batherson transferred to Saint Lawrence University to cap off her NCAA career. While representing the scarlett and brown, Batherson played in all 39 games, tallying 8 goals and recording 29 assists for 37 points. The 2023-24 season also saw her named as a finalist for ECAC Hockey Defender of the Year and to the First-Team All-ECAC Hockey (2023-24).
The Maritimer was selected by Minnesota in the sixth round, 33rd overall, in the 2024 PWHL Draft. During her rookie season with the Frost, Batherson has illustrated strong hockey IQ, her smooth skating and carved herself out as a reliable two-way defenseman.
As she continues to develop her game in the PWHL, the Nova Scotian remains a player to watch, embodying the spirit and dedication of elite women’s hockey.
